Dr. Fern Duvall II Dedicatory Scholarship

The Dr. Fern Duvall II Dedicatory Conservation Scholarship honors the legacy of Dr. Fern Duvall, a dedicated conservationist who worked tirelessly to protect Hawaii’s unique ecosystems and wildlife. This scholarship is designed to support undergraduate and graduate students who share his passion for conservation, wildlife preservation, and environmental stewardship.

Google Form to Submit Application

Items you will need for the Google Form:

1. Short Responses (within the Google Form):

Describe your involvement in conservation activities (research, projects, volunteer work). (250 words max).
How do you plan to use your education to impact conservation efforts in the future? (250 words max).

2. Personal Statement: Attach a 500-750 word essay in Word or PDF form describing:

Your passion for conservation and how Dr. Duvall’s work inspires you.
Your academic and career goals in environmental science or conservation.
Any relevant experiences (research, volunteer work, community initiatives).

Upload as a Word document or PDF.

3. Recommendation Letters: Attach one or two letters from professors, mentors, or professionals in conservation. Upload as a Word document or PDF.

4. Resume or CV listing academic and conservation related activities.

5. Proof of enrollment (transcripts or letter from institution)

6. Optional - 1 additional upload is allowed for a portfolio or documentation of conservation-related work.

The Details

Award Amount: $2,000 (one time grant, unrestricted)

2026 Deadlines:

Applications must be submitted by Friday, October 16, 2026.
Recipients will be notified by November 16, 2026.

Eligibility:

Must be an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at an accredited college or university.
Majoring in environmental science, biology, conservation, or a related field.
Demonstrated commitment to conservation through coursework, research, or volunteer work.
Preference will be given to students from Hawaii or those conducting conservation-related work in Hawaii.
Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Personal Statement (500-750 words) explaining:
- Your passion for conservation and how Dr. Duvall’s work inspires you.
- Your academic and career goals in environmental science or conservation.
- Any relevant experiences (research, volunteer work, community initiatives).
Letters of Recommendation (one or two) from a professor, mentor, or conservation professional.
Resume or CV listing academic and conservation-related activities.
Proof of Enrollment (such as an transcript or letter from the institution).
(Optional) Portfolio or documentation of conservation-related work.

Selection Process:

Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee composed of conservation professionals and educators.
Recipients will be chosen based on their commitment to conservation, academic performance, and the strength of their personal statement.
